Signature Senior Session : Beach
Katelyn | York, Maine | August
Nubble Lighthouse
We started with the whole family at Nubble Light on the rocky coast for a few classic Maine shots before heading down to Long Sands Beach just in time for sunset and that dreamy evening light.
But first—yes, we have to talk about the seaweed.
Three generations at York, ME
The Seaweed Situation
The tide had been extra rough the week before and dumped a ton of seaweed near the seawall. To get to the actual beach, we had to climb over what felt like a salad bar gone rogue.
Katelyn? Total champ. Her dad? Not so much. Watching him tiptoe through the seaweed, shrieking the entire way, gave us a good boost of energy and some very authentic smiles.
10/10 comedy, would watch again.

Katelyn’s Looks
Katelyn brought four different outfits, and they each got their own moment:
A white strapless dress for family portraits
A coral mini dress that popped perfectly against the rocks
A soft blue floral top with white linen pants for blue hour
A flowy sage green dress for sunset (this one was the winner for the yearbook!)
We planned the outfit order ahead of time so we could shoot efficiently and take full advantage of the light—and it paid off in a gallery full of variety and depth.
From “I’m Not So Sure…” to “Okay FINE.”
The lighting? The smile? The confidence? Yes, yes, and YES.
Katelyn had been a little unsure - about the beach selected, about the posing, about if she’d even like her photos. But when she arrived at the studio for her reveal session and saw all of her portraits on the wall? That quick grin said it all.
Her mom leaned in and asked, “Do you believe us now when we tell you how beautiful you are?”
Katelyn, in classic teen form, shrugged and replied, “Okay, fine.”
That’s the moment. The real win. When the self-doubt melts away and what’s left is confidence and pride.
That’s my GOAL for your Senior Portrait Session.
Blue hour magic + sandy toes + lots of love.
Why I Love Long Sands Beach
Beach sessions can be tricky to coordinate. But Long Sands Beach is a favorite for a reason:
The beach is expansive so it never feels too crowded.
The rocky coastline adds beautiful texture and allows for different poses.
Parking is close (a huge perk when changing outfits).
Of course, there are some quirks to keep in mind with any beach session:
Tide matters. We aim for low tide in the evening which means days are limited.
Wind is a given. Gorgeous for flowy dresses, tricky for controlling your hair.
Changing outfits isn’t glamorous. Think beach towel wraps or a trip back to the car. Not ideal if you’re shy.
That said, if you’re up for it, the results are always worth it.
Want a Beach Session? Book Early!
True beach sessions take planning - between travel, weather, and tides, we don’t wing these. So if a coastal session is calling your name, reach out early so we can make the stars (and tides) align.
Beach Vibes Made Easy?
If you love the idea of a waterfront session but don’t want to deal with tide charts or beach traffic, a lakeside session is a great option. You’ll get the same laid-back vibe and sand between your toes, but with way less stress (and zero seaweed). There are endless options for lakeside senior portrait sessions in and around the Chelmsford, Westford, Littleton, Groton, Dunstable area. Interested to learn more? Schedule a call at the link below.
